Bob Worswick; Humorous tales from preaching Place and Time of Meetings The Club meets every other Tuesday morning throughout the year (with a short break over Christmas time), at 10 am for up to two and a half hours at the Conservative Club’s Concert Room, Ribby Road, Kirkham A number of Wrea Green villagers attend so lifts can be arranged. Purpose of the Club The Probus organisation exists to encourage friendships between its members and to promote social activities What do we do at our meetings Our meeting commence with coffee and a chance for social contact. This is usually followed by a visiting speaker, video presentation or film. From time to time there is discussion of a topical issue or a quiz. Social Activities The Club promotes and encourages a programme of quarterly corporate dinners that includes wives and partners (at reasonable cost) usually at lunch time. Members are encouraged to arrange excursions, visits, social evenings, coffee mornings and attend sporting activities as they wish.
What is Probus “Probus”, a contraction of the words “professional” and “Business”, is a grouping originally conceived by Rotary International for Rotarians whose membership was reaching the then imposed upper age limit. It also enabled members to operate at a more relaxed rate than the busy activity schedule of a typical Rotary group. Probus has moved on since then and is open to none Rotarians. Probus clubs are not affiliated to a central body and the club is entirely self-governing. The Kirkham and Rural Fylde Club The Club was formed in 1973. The Club’s affairs are run by a committee of eight members. The officers and committee are elected each year and the office of chairman rotates annually among those members who wish to take part. The incoming candidate being determined by the seniority of admission to membership. Cost of Membership Membership entails a modest annual subscription and a small subscription for each meeting attended. This is to cover room hire, refreshments and speaker expenses. 2010 annual fee £30 plus £1 per meeting attended You can be a visitor for up to three meetings without paying the annual fee. This will enable newcomers to see if Probus meets their need
